I was talking to my friend Ike the other day. We were having one of those long philosophical talks about life in general. We started talking about our spiritual journeys and how we all need to grow and that we’re not here for nothing…there is a purpose to all of our lives as individuals. He then went on to say something on the lines of ” I really don’t understand why (generalising) when people have children, they put their own spiritual growth on the side pretty much as soon as they know a baby is coming and fully focus on that child.” The laws of the Universe will always tell you that you have to nourish yourself before you can love or nourish anyone else. We talked about how this can have a detrimental effect on everything because you are not focussed and in tune as you would be if you were on the path of spiritual growth.
So if you are a parent/guardian with responsibility over a child, even if you take out 15-30 minutes per day, make sure you do something for you. whether thats some really deep breathing/meditation or joining a class that you have always wanted to or just reading a good trashy novel. Dont forget to do what makes you happy. Your family will all benefit from it.
And don’t feel any guilt – you are allowed to have time for you.
